Marine Aquarium and Research Centre

The Marine Aquarium and Research Centre in Digha, run by the Zoological Survey of India, is the town's main indoor attraction. It holds a collection of Bay of Bengal marine species — fish, crustaceans, molluscs, and other creatures — in aquarium tanks and preserved specimen displays. The research centre also maintains exhibits on the ecology of the coastal and estuarine environments of West Bengal.

It is not a large or world-class aquarium, but for families with children it provides a couple of hours of air-conditioned respite from the beach, and the exhibits give useful context for understanding the marine environment visible from Digha's shore. Entry fees are modest. The aquarium is located in the New Digha area.
