City Center in the heart of Durgapur is the city's main commercial and social hub — a cluster of shopping malls, a cineplex, and restaurants in a well-maintained outdoor area. It's where the young, relatively affluent population of this steel-town spends its evenings. The malls (Big Bazaar, Junction Mall, Suhatta) are standard Indian mall fare, but the food courts and smaller eateries around the complex are worth exploring. Bengalis from Durgapur will tell you the biryani at Koh-i-noor in Benachity (the older market district about 2 km from City Center) is better than anything in the malls — they are probably right.
