Amed is on Bali's far east coast, about 2.5 to 3 hours by car from the airport, Kuta, or Seminyak in normal traffic. From Ubud, the drive is usually around 2 hours via Candidasa and Amlapura.
Public transport is slow and indirect. Most travellers arrive by private driver, scooter, or shuttle van. Some fast boats to and from Lombok and the Gili Islands use Amed seasonally, but schedules change often and should be checked locally.
