Bena Traditional Village

Living Ngada megalithic village below Mount Inerie.

Bena is the village most travellers picture when they think of the Ngada highlands: rows of high-roofed houses facing a stone ceremonial courtyard, with Mount Inerie rising behind. It is one of the clearest places near Bajawa to see how megalithic forms, ancestor shrines, weaving, and Catholic village life sit together.

The village is visited often, but it is still lived in. Walk slowly, ask before photographing people, and buy textiles directly if you want a souvenir. The setting is as important as the architecture; on a clear day the mountain makes the whole village feel deliberately placed.
