The Poten is the Tenggerese Hindu temple standing in the Sea of Sand below Mount Bromo. Its low, austere form looks especially striking against the dark volcanic plain and the smoking crater behind it.
The temple is most important during the Kasada festival, when Tenggerese worshippers gather before making offerings at Bromo's crater. Outside festival time, it is still worth a short stop while crossing the caldera floor, especially for the contrast between the temple walls, the sand, and the surrounding volcanoes.
