The main reason to stop in Sumedang rather than just drive through it, this small museum sits on Jalan Geusan Ulun and holds the crown jewels, weapons, and regalia of the Sumedang Larang kingdom — the Sundanese successor state that kept independence for nearly a century after the fall of the Pajajaran Kingdom in the late sixteenth century.
The collection is modest but focused: keris daggers, ceremonial spears, royal textiles, and the gilded ornaments that once marked the Sundanese nobility. Labels are in Indonesian, so a basic understanding of the language helps, but the objects speak for themselves well enough. A separate building holds a gamelan set and other cultural artifacts. The overall scale is intimate — you can see everything in under an hour — but the curators have resisted the temptation to pad it out with irrelevance, which keeps the quality high. Entry is cheap by any measure.
