Taxis are the easiest way to get around Surabaya -- use metered cabs or ride-hailing apps. Few locals speak English, so having your destination written down helps. Bemo (minibuses) and becak (rickshaws) cover shorter routes but can be confusing for visitors. Public buses exist but are crowded and not recommended. The city is spread out, so walking between areas is not practical.
