Gili T Dive Sites

Gili Trawangan has more than a dozen named dive sites around the island, ranging from gentle slopes good for new divers to stronger-current walls that suit the experienced. Turtle Point on the east coast is the most popular — green and hawksbill turtles are seen on nearly every dive. The Manta Point site off the south coast occasionally sees manta rays between June and October, when upwellings bring nutrient-rich water into the area.

The dive industry on Trawangan is well-established and mostly reputable. PADI open-water courses are widely available and reasonably priced. Night dives are popular — the reef takes on a different character after dark, with sleeping turtles, hunting lionfish, and octopus emerging from the coral.

A story
Turtle Point on Gili Trawangan's east coast consistently delivers green and hawksbill turtle encounters — these reptiles have nested here for decades, and the dive operators have worked with local communities to protect the nesting beaches. At some sites, turtles are so accustomed to divers that they will hover just above the reef barely moving, letting you drift alongside for minutes at a time.
