A traditional Dani village about an hour's walk east from Wamena via Wesaput, set among taro and sweet-potato gardens and accessible only on foot. Pugima is the easy day-hike out of Wamena: you cross a footbridge, walk up through cultivated terraces, and arrive at a working settlement where the contrast with the town is immediate.
It is not staged for tourists, but villagers are used to occasional visitors and will let you walk through. Bring small denominations for photos. Two to three hours round-trip from Wamena at an easy pace.
