Cape Kri, off the southwestern tip of Kri Island near Waisai, holds the world record for the highest number of fish species counted in a single dive: 374, recorded in 2002. For divers, this matters less as a statistic than as lived experience — descending here is like entering a world where every patch of reef is busy with something new. Parrotfish, wrasse, fusiliers, and anthias move in clouds; whitetip reef sharks patrol the drop-off; turtles drift through in the middle distance.
The dive is suitable for most levels — the depth is manageable and the current, while present, is not usually extreme. It is one of the most-visited dive sites in the archipelago and yet somehow never feels crowded. Kri Island itself has several small guesthouses and is accessible by boat from Waisai in about 45 minutes.
