Pianemo is the accessible version of Wayag — a cluster of karst islands and a viewpoint hill that can be reached from Waisai in about two hours. The view from the top is remarkably similar to Wayag: mushroom islands, shallow lagoon, open ocean beyond. Because it requires less travel, it sees more day visitors, but in the early morning it is still quiet.
The wooden staircase to the viewpoint is well-maintained. From the top you can see several of the surrounding dive sites, including the famous Cape Kri reef that holds one of the highest counts of fish species ever recorded on a single dive. Most visitors combine the Pianemo viewpoint with a snorkel in the lagoon below.
