Belitung has a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons. The dry season (April–October) is the best time to visit: calm seas, clear skies, and conditions ideal for island-hopping, snorkelling, and beach activities. July and August are peak season; weekends throughout the dry season fill up with domestic tourists from Jakarta.
The wet season (November–March) brings strong winds, rough seas, and heavy rainfall, which can make the crossing to the outer islands difficult or impossible. Some guesthouses and tour operators scale back operations during this period. Tanjung Tinggi and the mainland beaches remain accessible, but the island-hopping trips — the main reason to come — may be limited.
If visiting during a public holiday or long weekend, book accommodation and ferries well in advance; demand from Jakarta can be intense and prices rise sharply.
