The park on the southern rim of the Sianok canyon is the best free viewpoint in town, with a balcony hanging over the gorge and benches under the trees. Monkeys hang around looking for snacks — keep your bag closed. The park is also the surface entrance to the Lobang Jepang tunnel system.
Get here for sunrise if you can. The light angles down the canyon and the mountains on the eastern horizon — Marapi and Singgalang — emerge from the night mist. Coffee sellers set up early at the gate.
