Nias is two journeys in one: the megalithic villages and warrior culture of the southern hills, and the world-class surf breaks of Lagundri Bay. Most travellers come for one or the other; a week is enough to do both at a relaxed pace. The Museum Pusaka Nias in Gunungsitoli is the best place to start — it provides context for everything you will see in the villages.
