Teluk Dalam sits on the southern coast of Nias. From Gunungsitoli — where most arrivals on the island land — the road south is around 100 kilometres and takes about two hours in a private car or three hours by minibus (angkot). The road has improved enormously since the 2005 earthquake and is now sealed for almost its entire length.
There is also a small airport at Lasondre Binaka in the south of the island, and an even smaller domestic strip near Teluk Dalam, though scheduled services are intermittent. For surfers with boards, the easier overall route is to fly into Gunungsitoli from Medan and travel south by road.
