The reef break at the southern corner of Lagundri Bay and the reason Nias appears on every serious surfer's mental map. Waves wrap onto the reef and peel as a long, powerful right-hander, hollow on bigger swells and well-shaped almost regardless of size. The take-off zone sits in front of a row of bungalows, so paddle-outs are short and the lineup is easy to read from shore.
It is not a beginner wave. The reef is sharp, the current pulls toward a rocky outcrop, and crowded sessions in peak season favour locals and well-known regulars. Outside June to October the swell drops and the lineup empties.
