A 60-metre earth-fill embankment dam on the Duhok River, immediately north of the city. The reservoir behind it stretches several kilometres up the valley and has become Duhok's main weekend outing — picnic spots line the shore, families rent paddle boats, and the road along the western bank is the place to stop for grilled fish and tea as the sun goes down.
You can walk along the top of the dam for views back across the city and forwards into the rising mountains. The water is clear and cold; locals swim in summer though the reservoir is technically the municipal water supply.
