Acre is best visited in spring (March–May) and autumn (October–November), when temperatures are comfortable and the old city is not overwhelmed with visitors. Summers are hot and humid — bearable near the sea, but the underground Crusader halls offer welcome relief. Winters are mild by European standards, occasionally rainy, and the city is at its least crowded.
The major Israeli school holidays (especially July–August and Passover) bring the biggest crowds. If visiting in summer, arrive early at the Crusader fortress before the tour groups arrive.
