Jerusalem Great Synagogue

Inaugurated in 1982 on King George Street, this monumental Orthodox synagogue seats over 1,400 worshippers and serves as one of Jerusalem's most important congregations. The sanctuary features impressive stained-glass windows and the synagogue is renowned for its exceptional choir, which performs during Shabbat and holiday services. The building sits adjacent to Heichal Shlomo, the former seat of the Israeli Chief Rabbinate. Visitors are welcome outside of prayer times to admire the grand interior. Both Ashkenazi and Sephardic services are held here. If you can attend a Friday evening or Saturday morning service, the choral singing alone makes the visit memorable, though modest dress is required.
