Day Trips

The Galilee hills around Nazareth are some of the most historically layered landscape in the world. Sepphoris (Tzippori), 5 km to the north, is a Roman-Byzantine archaeological site with a spectacular mosaic floor dubbed "the Mona Lisa of the Galilee" — Herod Antipas ruled from here, and Jesus almost certainly worked in the city as a carpenter. Mount Tabor, 15 km to the east, is the mountain associated with the Transfiguration; a basilica crowns the summit and the views over the Jezreel Valley are spectacular. Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee is an hour's drive and makes a good base for exploring the lake.
