Matsumoto has a lively cafe and bar scene concentrated around the castle area and the Nakamachi merchant district. The narrow streets south of the castle are dotted with independent coffee shops, sake bars, and izakayas — many housed in converted kura storehouses. The city is small enough that you can wander and find your own favourites.
