Yohashira-jinja

Compact downtown shrine to four Shinto deities

Yohashira-jinja sits in a small precinct off Nawate-dōri, dedicated to four deities — Amenominakanushi, Takamimusubi, Kamimusubi and Amaterasu — which is unusual for a single small shrine. Founded in 1879, it is a popular stop for locals on the way through town and hosts a busy weekend antique market on the surrounding lanes.

The torii faces the river; the precinct is shaded by big pines. It takes ten minutes to visit and pairs naturally with a walk down Nawate-dōri.
