Getting Around

The main sights cluster around Nara Park and are easily reached on foot from either of the two train stations. Most visitors walk between Todai-ji, Kasuga Grand Shrine, and Naramachi — the distances are short and the park itself is the route.

The Nara Kotsu city bus network covers the wider city. Buses run roughly every thirty minutes to most stops; a single journey costs around ¥220. A day pass is available and worthwhile if you plan to venture beyond the park.

Taxis are available at the train stations but expensive by the standards of the local sights, all of which are within easy walking distance of each other.
