The Hakone Free Pass covers the full transport loop: Hakone Tozan Line from Hakone-Yumoto up through switchbacks to Gora; Hakone Tozan Cable Car from Gora to Sounzan; Hakone Ropeway from Sounzan over Owakudani and down to Togendai on the lakeshore; and Hakone Sightseeing Cruise across Lake Ashi to Moto-Hakone or Hakone-machi. Completing the entire circuit in one direction takes most of a day.
Buses operated by Hakone Tozan cover routes the train and ropeway don't reach, including the Hakone Barrier, various onsen villages, and areas around the lake. Local taxis serve hotels and ryokan that buses don't reach. Walking between villages along old sections of the Tokaido highway is pleasant in mild weather.
