From Tokyo, the most convenient route is the Romancecar limited express train operated by Odakyu from Shinjuku Station directly to Hakone-Yumoto in about 85 minutes. This is a reserved-seat train; booking in advance (especially for weekends) is recommended. Alternatively, take the Odakyu limited express to Odawara and change to the Hakone Tozan Line for Hakone-Yumoto and Gora.
The JR Shinkansen stops at Odawara, which is the gateway to Hakone from the bullet train network. From Odawara, the Hakone Tozan Line reaches Hakone-Yumoto in 15 minutes.
The Hakone Free Pass is the most economical way to visit: sold by Odakyu from Shinjuku or at Odawara Station, it covers the round-trip from Shinjuku or Odawara plus unlimited use of all local transport in the Hakone area for two or three days.
