The concentration of university students and international researchers has produced a small number of good cafes near the university campus and around Tsukuba Center, and the mountain itself has a traditional teahouse at the summit that makes a welcome stop after the climb. Don't expect the density of Tokyo — this is a planned city that turns quiet in the evenings — but you will not go without a decent coffee or a quiet drink.
