Kokura has the castle and the arcades; Moji has Meiji-era port heritage; Yahata has the Nippon Steel Museum and a glimpse of Japan's industrial history. The Kanmon Strait crossing — by pedestrian tunnel or ferry to Shimonoseki — is worth doing for the perspective on the geography.
