Tosa Shrine

Tosa Shrine is one of Kochi's older Shinto sites, with origins uncertain enough that the shrine is already mentioned in Japan's early chronicles, the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki. The present buildings sit north-east of the city centre in a quieter residential area.

It is not as central as Kochi Castle or the Sunday Market, but it rewards visitors interested in older religious sites and the premodern history of Tosa Province. Combine it with other north-side stops if you have a car or extra time.
