Amman has a genuine cafe culture, especially on Rainbow Street and in the Luweibdeh neighbourhood. The traditional Arabic coffeehouse (serving cardamom-spiced coffee and tea) coexists with third-wave specialty coffee places and occasional wine bars. Alcohol is available in Amman — it is one of the more liberal Arab capitals in this respect — but the bar scene is relatively low-key. Most social drinking happens at restaurants with a licence, rather than dedicated bars.
