Amman's hills and dispersed neighbourhoods make walking between districts tiring; most visitors rely on taxis, which are cheap, plentiful and mostly yellow. Insist on the meter (a daytime surcharge applies in summer). Ride-hail apps like Careem and Uber work reliably and often give lower prices. A limited bus network and the new BRT serve the main corridors, but are rarely worth the effort for short visits. Within the downtown, walking is the only realistic option — just be prepared for a lot of staircases.
