Getting Around

Locals call Irbid the "Yellow City" because of the sheer number of yellow taxis on its streets. They are cheap and everywhere — you rarely wait more than a couple of minutes, and a cross-city ride costs a dinar or two. Drivers are generally friendly and will try their best even without shared language; men usually sit in the front, women in the back. City buses and service taxis connect the main stations and are the cheapest way around, though they can be crowded. For day trips to Umm Qais, Ajloun or Pella, the simplest option is to negotiate a half-day taxi.
