The Pavlodar Regional Museum of History and Local Lore is the place to make sense of the city and the wider Irtysh region. Exhibits cover nature, archaeology, ethnography, the Russian imperial period, Soviet industrialisation, and the region's modern development.
It is especially useful because Pavlodar's history is not always obvious from the street. Give it an hour before walking the riverfront or heading onward across northern Kazakhstan.
