Al Shaheed Park

Kuwait City's largest urban park, with two small museums

Al Shaheed Park (Martyr's Park) is the largest park in Kuwait City, opened in 2015 on a site that had been a fenced military zone since the 1950s. The park covers 200,000 square metres of designed landscape between the downtown corniche and the highway, with open lawns, tree-lined paths, an amphitheatre, and a children's area.

Two museums sit within the park: the Pavilion of Kuwait, which covers the country's history and culture in a modern interactive format, and a biodiversity pavilion focused on the natural environment of Kuwait and the Gulf. Neither is a major institution, but both are well-presented and free to enter.

The park is most pleasant in the cooler months — October to April — when it fills with families, joggers, and people on bicycles. In summer it is largely empty during daylight hours. The location near the Seif waterfront makes it a natural complement to a visit to the Kuwait Towers or Souk Al-Mubarakiya.
