Beaches

Kuwait City's coastline stretches along the Persian Gulf, but beach culture here comes with some caveats. Many of the best beaches are attached to private clubs or hotels, and public beaches can be crowded and poorly maintained. Tanning in a bikini on a public beach is not advisable -- modest swimwear is expected in public spaces, though hotel and club beaches are more relaxed.

Messilah Beach near Salmiya is one of the most popular private beaches. It has dedicated ladies-only days (typically Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday) with traditional entertainment and a relaxed atmosphere.

The Scientific Centre Beach in Salmiya is a pleasant public waterfront with parks, gardens, and walking paths, plus the aquarium, IMAX cinema, and discovery centre nearby. A good spot for a day out with families.

Al Oqeila Beach is a more laid-back option south of the city, popular for barbecues and evening gatherings with friends and family. Reserve ahead for barbecue spots.

The Corniche waterfront from the Kuwait Towers south to Al-Bedaa is excellent for evening strolls along well-paved paths with greenery, sea views, and waterfront cafes. Not a swimming beach, but the best public waterfront in the city.

For a proper beach day with swimming and water sports, Aqua Park on Arab Gulf Street near the Kuwait Towers is the first and largest water park in the region, with pools, slides, go-karts, and a man-made river. Open from April to October.
