The House of Mirrors is one of the most extraordinary buildings in Kuwait: a private residence in the Rumaithiya district that the late artist Lidia Al-Qattan spent years covering, inside and out, with mirror mosaics. Every surface — walls, ceilings, furniture, garden — is encrusted with small pieces of reflective glass arranged in dazzling geometric and figurative patterns.
What makes the House of Mirrors unusual is that it was not a gallery or a commission — it was a home that Al-Qattan transformed over decades as an ongoing artistic project. The effect inside is overwhelming: thousands of mirrors catching and multiplying the light from every angle, with rooms covered in intricate mosaic narratives drawn from Islamic art, folk traditions, and personal symbolism.
Visits must be arranged in advance through the Amricani Cultural Centre or equivalent cultural institutions in Kuwait City. It is not always easy to access, but it is one of the most memorable things you can see in Kuwait. Worth the effort.
