Getting There

From Bishkek

The overland route from Bishkek to Osh is one of Central Asia's great road trips -- and one of its most grueling. The 600-kilometer road crosses two passes above 3,000 meters, with rough stretches, hairpin bends and occasional rockfalls. Shared taxis take 10-12 hours; buses are slower. Snow closes or complicates the passes from roughly November to March.

A much easier option is to fly. Domestic flights between Bishkek and Osh take about an hour and cost from around $50. Several carriers operate the route, including Asman Airlines and Tez Jet.

From Uzbekistan

Osh sits close to the Fergana Valley, and there are border crossings into Uzbekistan to the west. You can reach Osh from Andijan or other Fergana Valley cities, though border procedures can be slow and unpredictable. Check current visa requirements for Uzbekistan before planning this route.

From Tajikistan

Following the 2025 border agreement between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, crossings in the Batken region to the southwest have reopened. This remains a less-traveled route and conditions should be checked locally before attempting it.
