Hadchit

Hadchit is a Maronite village a few kilometres west of Bcharre along the cliff edge of the Qadisha. It is older than Bcharre — Phoenician in origin, with stone houses tumbled together on a steep slope — and gives an idea of what these mountain villages looked like before tourism arrived.

The interesting thing is the village's caves and rock-cut churches in the cliffs below. Some are accessible on foot for the surefooted; you'll want to ask in the village for directions and probably a guide. Worth combining with a Qadisha walk, or as a half-day drive from Bcharre that takes in the views over the gorge.
