Getting There

Bcharre is about 120 km from Beirut but the drive takes around two and a half hours because the last stretch climbs steadily up into the mountains. Most travellers come by hired car or taxi — the road via Chekka and Amioun is the usual route and is in reasonable shape.

Shared service taxis (vans) run from Beirut's Dora station to Bcharre a few times a day, costing very little but slow. There is no rail service in Lebanon. From Tripoli the drive is faster — about 50 km, around an hour and a half — and a more common starting point if you've already worked your way north.
