Qornet es Saouda

Lebanon's highest peak at 3,088 metres, walkable in summer.

Qornet es Saouda — "the black corner" — is the highest point in Lebanon and in the wider Levant, rising to 3,088 metres on the watershed between the coastal plain and the Bekaa Valley. From the Cedars village it's a roughly 12-kilometre, six-hour out-and-back walk on a rough jeep track, gaining about a thousand metres of elevation. There's no technical climbing, but the upper section is exposed and the weather can change fast.

The summit is bare, stony and treeless, with views west to the Mediterranean and east across the Bekaa to the Anti-Lebanon range and Syria. From late June to early October the route is clear; outside that window expect snow. Take more water than you think.
