Day Trips

Kelantan's interior offers jungle, rivers, caves, and waterfalls, all reachable as day trips from Kota Bharu. The Kelantan River cruise and the caves at Gua Ikan are the standout options.

Kelantan River Cruise departs from Kuala Krai and follows the river past the Royal Jetty, Kota Lama Palace, mangrove forest, floating houses, and fishing villages. You can stop at Suri Island to see traditional rural life and watch dodol being made.

Gua Ikan is a caving adventure that begins with a two-hour boat ride along the Galas River to Dabong Village. Inside the caves you will find bats, stalagmite formations, and underground springs.

Jelawang Waterfalls can be reached after the river trip with about 90 minutes of jungle trekking. Lata Beringin, a 120-metre waterfall, requires a two-and-a-half-hour train ride but is well worth it. Jeram Pasu and Jeram Lenang are closer options for waterfall seekers.

Tok Dalang's Shadow Play in Kampung Laut is a chance to see wayang kulit, the ancient art of shadow puppetry. The stories draw from the Hindu epics Mahabharata and Ramayana, performed by master puppeteer Tok Dalang Yusoff. Shows last about two hours.
