Kota Kinabalu International Airport has direct connections to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Kuching, and several other regional cities. AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines both serve the route from KL frequently, and budget fares make this the standard entry point. Royal Brunei Airlines connects KK to Bandar Seri Begawan. Overland routes from elsewhere in Borneo are slow and rarely practical — flying in is almost always the right call.
