The National Mosque sits on Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin, surrounded by landscaped gardens near the old railway station. Completed in 1965, its roof takes the shape of an eighteen-pointed star, resembling a partly opened umbrella. The design is considered one of the finest examples of modern Islamic architecture in Malaysia.
The Grand Hall accommodates up to 8,000 worshippers. A 73-metre minaret rises above the complex, and at the rear, a mausoleum within a circular reflecting pool serves as the resting place of several Malaysian national heroes.
Visitors must remove shoes before entering, and women should dress modestly — robes are available at the entrance if needed.
