A small but well-curated museum that traces the history of Malaysian textiles — songket, batik, pua kumbu, and the various ethnic dress traditions that make up the country's wardrobe. The building itself is a handsome example of Mughal Revival architecture from 1905, originally housing the Federated Malay States Railway headquarters.
Four galleries on two floors cover the technical side (looms, dyes, the chemistry of natural pigments) and the cultural side (royal regalia, wedding garments, the courtly traditions of the various Malay sultanates). Free admission, open 9 am to 6 pm daily. A useful 45-minute stop while walking the colonial core around Merdeka Square.
