Maafannu covers the western half of Malé island, from the central market and the fish landings on the north waterfront down to Rasfannu beach at the western tip. It is the working part of the city: warehouses, freight forwarders, the ferry terminals for the resort and local-island boats, and the densest concentration of expat workers' housing.
The neighbourhood is less photogenic than Henveiru but more interesting if you want to see how Malé actually functions. The fish market at the north end is the obvious draw; the local market beside it sells everything that comes off the dhonis from the outer atolls.
