Getting There

Darkhan is well connected to Ulaanbaatar, about 200 km to the south, by both rail and road. Express trains take around three hours; several services run daily on the Trans-Mongolian line, making Darkhan one of the easiest provincial cities to reach from the capital. Buses also run frequently, taking a similar time by road.

Darkhan-1 railway station is the main stop, about 1 km from the city centre. If you are continuing north toward the Russian border at Sukhbaatar, Darkhan is a natural stop on the Trans-Mongolian route between Ulaanbaatar and Ulan-Ude in Russia.
