Darkhan rewards those who use it as a base rather than a destination. The city itself has the Morin Khuur Complex (a park dedicated to the horsehead fiddle), the Museum of Darkhan-Uul Province, and the My Mongolia Park, but its main value is as a staging point for visiting the monasteries of the surrounding countryside — particularly Amarbayasgalant, one of Mongolia's most intact Buddhist monasteries, and the smaller Haragiin Khid closer to town.
