Nyangshwe is most commonly reached by bus from Mandalay or Taunggyi, or by connection from Bagan. Guesthouses and hotels routinely arrange tickets and can book onward transport. The road to Bagan takes around 10 hours by minibus — book ahead, as these buses fill up. Buses also run to Mandalay, Taunggyi, and Paya. If arriving from Mandalay, the route passes through Kalauw, a hilltown with good hiking in its own right.
