Ain Razat Springs

Ain Razat is a natural spring in the foothills of the Qara mountains north of Salalah, set in a landscape that is striking in its lushness — particularly during and after the monsoon season when the surrounding hills are green and the spring runs strongly. The springs emerge from the limestone bedrock and feed a small pool shaded by fig trees and palms.

The site is used as a weekend picnic area by Salalah families, and the atmosphere is unhurried and relaxed. Good birdwatching in the trees: Arabian golden sparrow, African paradise flycatcher, and various warblers have been recorded here. A smaller spring nearby (Ain Homran) is less visited and slightly more atmospheric. The drive up from Salalah passes through frankincense groves — recognisable by the small, knobbly Boswellia sacra trees that exude the precious resin.
