Beaches

Salalah has some of the most atmospheric beaches in Oman — long, largely deserted stretches of white sand backed by dramatic cliffs, with the Qara mountains visible inland. Mughsail Beach, 35 km west of the city, is the most spectacular: a wide bay with natural blowholes in the limestone shelf that shoot spray high into the air when waves are strong. Rakhyut, further west toward the Yemeni border, is even more remote. During the khareef season the beaches are pleasantly cool; outside it they're better for short visits in the early morning.
