Khawr Salalah is part of the chain of coastal lagoons that make the Salalah plain feel unlike most of Arabia. Fresh water, reeds, mudflats, and seasonal greenery draw birds and soften the edge between the city and the sea.
The khawr is especially appealing during and after the khareef, when the surrounding landscape turns green and the air is cooler. Bring binoculars if you have them, stay on obvious paths, and remember that the fragile wetland is the attraction, not a place for loud recreation.
